Tatted Iris

Here is the iris that I have designed to add to my latest book Tatted Flowers From Bulbs.
Most flower patterns only take me two or three goes to get the effect that I am looking for, but this one!!!!....well I certainly got through a lot of cotton before I was satisfied with the end result!
I think the main problem was, there were so many variety variations of the flower, that coming up with something that actually looked like an iris, but was also easily achievable for the tatter, was quite a challenge!
What do you think? Would you recognise it as an iris?

It looks really pretty! It took me a few minutes to really see the iris in it, but then again I'm more used to flat tatting than 3d.

Like you, I have designed a lot of 3D flowers, but one that I haven't done yet is the trditional florist iris. When they are used in bouquets, the flower is often stil in bud stage so that the centre part is still closed, but a fully opened flower is difficult to achieve without wire which I don't like to use. I think you've done a marvellous job.

not an iris to me, but a very beautiful spirit type figure. I love it....

I certainly would recognize it as an iris! We had lovely purple irises in the front yard of our old house.

Linda, You know I always love to see your new designs. I've even purchased one of your DVD's. So, I really hate that you asked for honest opinions. I really had to look hard but it was only because Iris' are the only flowers that I know of that turn the petals up and down that I was able to recognize this as an Iris. I'd rather see the petals much wider at the outer end of the petal and the levels of petals closer together. But, that's just me. I do love flowers but do have to admit that I'm not real knowledgable on flowers. This is just my opinion. So, if others find my comment to be failing, it won't hurt my feelings at all.

And, please don't use my comment as any type of professional guide either. It's just my opinion. Love your tatting. Please keep it up.

Thank you, one and all, for your helpful comments.

When I Googled images for the iris flower I was stunned with the amount of different varieties! I chose a design that I thought I could replicate, but even to me, it doesn't look "fat" enough.

I think that I will tweak this pattern a little more before I am completely satisfied!

Lovely tatting Linda. I agree with your decision to work at thickening it as I think the basic structure is great.

Well for my 2 pence(cents) I think your flower and tatting are lovely. I have Iris growing and they have a ruffled petal.I love the colors and am waiting for your new book to be ready!

This looks like my little "Dutch Iris" (which didn't look like the Rhizome Irises I was used to). While it is not my favorite of your flowers, that's probably because the "Dutch Iris" isn't my favorite real flower!

It definitely looks like an iris. However, there is something not quite right about it. The petals are a little too narrow and too long. It still is pretty nonetheless. If you need a test tatter for any of your new designs, I'm here.
