Christmas Tree Progression

This is my progression in designing a tatted
Christmas tree

This is the one that I settled with. It can be done as a flat motif
as this one is or.....

.... make two, fold them in half and glue them together along
the fold.

Little Beaded Tiara

This little tiara has been stiffened using hairspray. It wasn't stiff enough and so I sprayed it again and it made a big difference. I will spray it one more time just to see if it makes it even stiffer!

I thought I would put some Christmas flakes into bangles so that I can hang them anywhere!

Christmas Snowflakes number 2

With the second snowflake I therefore simply added the sequins as and when I needed them and didn't bother to thread them on the thread first!

Christmas Snowflakes

With this first snowflake I threaded the sequins onto the thread first. I find this fiddly to do but thought that it was the best way to make the sequins lie flat. However I miscalculated the number of sequins and therefore for the last 2 sets of 3 rings I put the sequins on with a needle threader and low and behold - they lie much better than the ones that were threaded on first!

Fisherman Cake

I have done this cake for a friend's father's 70th birthday. He is into fishing and is having a party on Sunday. He knows he is having a party but he doesn't know about the cake!

Lacis double bobbin samples

I recently acquired a Lacis double bobbin shuttle and these are the two first attempts. I made life difficult for myself by winding each of the three bobbins with a very fine thread and with a thread of Gutermann Sulky to make it all sparkly! Although the threads were awkward to work with I soon got to grips with the shuttle. With ordinary tatting thread it would work very well.

Glittery snowflake

This is my very first bespoke snowflake. I used together a silky rayon thread about the size of quilting cotton and a silver thread. It measures approx 3" across and sparkles lovely in a good light.

A little crown

The threads that I used on this little motif were a good quality varigated, machine sewing yarn and a gold thread. The gold thread split and so I had to cut it off. The distance I achieved before the thread split I thought the motif looked just like a little crown. I shall have to think what else I can put with it on a Christmas card perhaps!

Christmas Bauble

My niece has bought new baubles for her tree this year and her colour scheme is green, white and silver. After seeing other designs on the net I thought I would have a go at my own. This was the result of my first attempt!

Sequinned Snowflake

I added silver holographed sequins to one of my favourite little flowers to make a pretty snowflake. The camera makes some of the sequins look multicoloured!

Christening Cake

I had to do this Christening cake in a rush as my niece, Paula, who should have been doing it, had an accident at work, so it was Aunty Linda to the rescue!
