The Aran Marathon has begun!

I decided to knit myself an Aran cardigan/jacket, with pockets, as I couldn't find one in the shops that I liked. I haven't knitted for a couple of years because of arthritis in my right wrist and right shoulder, but now that both joints have been operated on successfully I thought I would try knitting again.

I am delighted to say that I have not had any problems in the actual knitting, but I have had one great big problem!!! This problem goes by the name of Dear Husband! "I want you to knit me one first" says DH. So I dutifully start doing one his size. When I have knitted the back he kindly informed me that he didn't want a cardigan, he wanted a V neck jumper! The pattern booklet I bought didn't have a V neck jumper in it and so I have had to make one up as I went along!
This is what I have done so far!

Beautiful! I can't believe you're making up your own design for a v-neck! I have to have an exact pattern to follow. Good for you!

Maybe you'd like to add me to your list of recipients! Aran sweaters are my favorite! I have one that I purchased in Ireland in 1974. It doesn't fit any more, but I keep it around for sentimental reasons. Or maybe I should just pull my Alice Starmore book off the shelf and start one of my own!

How lovely. Aran anything is my favorite knitted thing. I used to make Aran hats for everyone. One year I made Aran sweaters for everyone in the family -- each in a different bright crayon color. My dad's was hardest, because I knew he wouldn't wear it without pockets, so I had to figure out how to put some in. Looks like your patternless V-neck is going to be wonderful.
